Rana Naidu – Web Series Review

To what extent would a gentleman go to save his family? Remember, a man always dons various roles all the time, that of a son, a brother, a husband and most of all, a father. And family comes first, no matter what. And the sacrifices of a man come at a cost.

Presenting Rana Naidu (Rana Daggubati), for One Last Job.

In the second season of the critically acclaimed web series, made for India by OTT giant, Netflix, Rana Daggubati as the protagonist carries the weight of the titular role in every episode of the 9-part series.

And this time, not only does he have new adversaries, but some very wicked ones, who harm almost every member of his family.

The series opens with Rana and his wife Naina (Surveen Chawla) returning after a trip to Europe with Rana confiding that he will stop his gangster work henceforth.

As they land at Mumbai airport, Rana sees a video where his son Anirudh (Madhav Dhingra) has been kidnapped. As he rushes to Goa in the private plane owned by Viraj Oberoi (Rajat Kapoor), Viraj announces that after the rescue mission, Rana will work for him.

Flummoxed at Viraj’s unilateral decision, Naina and Rana are bewildered but the focus is to rescue their beloved son. When he reaches Goa along with his associate Lara (Lauren Robinson), Rana meets Naga Naidu (Venkatesh Daggubati), his estranged father running a betting ring over wrestlers.

Rana manages to rescue his son and returns safely to Mumbai.

But new troubles begin, with Viraj, an established and controversial businessman hiring him to oversee his nefarious activities. Alia Oberoi (Kriti Kharbanda) wants to acquire a T20 Cricket team, while her younger brother Chirag Oberoi (Tanuj Virwani) wants to inherit the family business of being an acclaimed 3r generation film production company, though most of their recent films have flopped.

Viraj decides to continue with film production and assigns Rana as the personal bodyguard to the lead actor, on whom the entire investment rests.

But Rana double crosses Viraj and makes a deal with Alia, so he could get a small stake in the cricket team and settle down. He eventually gets her the team, but Viraj takes away Rana’s stake back as the business has to, after all, “remain within the family”.

Naina, who is fed up with Rana’s promises to give up being a hitman, begins a romantic outing with Naveen Joshi (Dino Morea), who is her partner at the Yoga Studio and in real, is a cop in disguise, determined to arrest Rana and is hatching a backdoor plan to nab him.

Enter Rauf Mirza (Arjun Rampal), now in prison, who’s nephew gets killed by Rana at Goa. Rauf seeks revenge from Rana but is willing to compromise if Rana chooses to work with him.

Rana insults him instead and walks away from this arrangement, which irks Rauf even more. Once he is out of jail, Rauf decides to get even with Rana.

Among other things, Rauf wants to become the MLA of Koliwada, a key constituency in the city and regain his edge as a Don. He also wants to be the de facto guardian of Rapper and budding artist Rehan (Bodhisattva Sharma) who’s love interest is none other than Nitya (Afrah Sayed), Rana’s elder child.

When Rehan’s actual guardian Pamma (Janu Kumar) resists this move, Rauf kills Rehan and Pamma in a shoot-out. Little does he realise that Nitya was in the car with them.

Meanwhile, Tej (Sushant Singh) wants to leave India and settle down with his love interest Anna (Ishitta Arun) in Portugal and asks Rana to transfer the studio he runs in his name, so he can sell it. Jaffa (Abhishek Bannerjee), Rana’s youngest brother falls in love with Tasneem (Aditi Shetty) and they decide to get married.

Viraj gets in to an altercation with his estranged son in-law Paritosh (Himanshu Malhotra) when the latter blackmails the former over his past, business secrets. Viraj eliminates him and asks Rana to get rid of Paritosh, but implicates Rana for the gruesome murder. Cop Naveen goes behind Rana, but gets double crossed by none other than his love interest, Naina.

Right after the wedding, when the entire family is having dinner, Rauf & his men enter the venue to kill Nitya, as he gets to know that she is a witness to his killing Rehan & Pamma.

Tej & Tasneem get badly shot and eventually, Tej dies. Rana and Naga go behind Rauf for revenge, even as Rana identifies someone “in the family” whom he trusted the most all his life, as the traitor who let him down.

What would Rana do finally, to save his family members? Watch this weekend.
