Dhurandhar - The Revenge : Movie Review

In the second instalment of the hugely successful prequel Dhurandhar, the force of Hamza Ali (Ranveer Singh) spans for almost 3 hrs. While watching the movie second time on OTT, I did so over 3 instalments. The two franchises put together would make sense for a 8-episode Web Series on an OTT platform.

Enough said.

In part 1, we saw the movie ending with Hamza killing Rahman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna) mercilessly in the middle of a forest for assisting the ISI  towards the deadly 26/11 attacks at Hotel Taj Mumbai.

In the sequel released on 19 March 2026 ahead of Ramzan, Hamza trains his guns on ISI Chieftain Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal) - after all he had seen success in planning and executing one of the most devastating attack by Pakistan on Indian soil.

The film starts in the year 2000. Jaskirat is sentenced to death by the court for killing 12 members of MLA Jaswinder Singh at their farmhouse in Pathankot. His anger cum revenge is because his sisters Harleen and Jasleen were gangraped by the same family and one of his sisters were mercilessly killed too.

In 2002, when Jaskirat is being shifted from one prison to another, he is kidnapped and taken to a secluded place. NSA Sanyal (Madhavan) assures 33 years’ monthly payment of INR 30,000 if Jaskirat agrees to become Hamza.

Cut to 2009, the scene begins with Rahman’s burial.  Meanwhile, local leader Arshad Pappu alias Arshad Pathan coronates himself as King of Lyari, replacing Rahman Dakait.

Assuming he was involved in the killing of Rahman, Hamza encourages Rahman’s younger brother Uzair Dakait to take over the role and together, the Baloch squad burns the territories of Arshad Pathan and gains control oh Lyari, once again.

When Hamza smells that SP Chowdhury (Sanjay Dutt) is on his way to arrest Uzair, Hamza pushes him to flee the country and remain in elusive in the UAE. However, at Dubai Airport, Uzair is caught by officials for travelling on an Iranian passport and he is put in jail.

Meanwhile, Hamza ascends the throne, becomes the Sher-E-Lyari, has a son now with Larina (Sara Arjun) and eventually becomes Sher-e-Baluch as well.

All of a sudden, the theatre bursts with whistles and hoots when the screen shows Narender Damodardas Modi taking oath as Prime Minister of India in 2014. I could sense from the audience that the reaction was simply spontaneous, including your’s truly!

ISI Chief Major Iqbal informs Hamza that Bade Saab wishes to meet him. They drive to an undisclosed location only to meet Dawood Ibrahim at his highly guarded home - White House, 13 Clifton.

Dawood appears to be bed-ridden for several years with chronic illness and tasks Hamza and Iqbal to move a tonne of drugs in to India, through the Punjab route, considered to be the drug capital of the country.

At the cafe cum restaurant owned by Zahoor Mistry, the Indian handlers arrive and Hamza is shocked to see his childhood friend Pinda being the lead.

Later in the night, at Hamza’s house party Pinda identifies Hamza and an altercation breaks. Pinda is killed. It as after this that SP Chowdhury has a scent of a doubt on Hamza, which Yaline overhears. She confronts Hamza with his personal diary and Hamza confesses, justifying his path.

During a chance meeting at Dubai, Hamza meets NSA Sanyal and he is given a go ahead to take up as many lives of terrorists as he wishes to.

It is depicted that due to the infiltration of over INR 60,000 Cr of fake currency that has entered India for the UP Elections in 2017, a Demonetisation drive is announced by the PM. Yet again, the theatre breaks in to cheer and claps.

One after the other, Hamza kills several masterminds who have created havoc in India, starting with SP Chowdhury in road blast.

For a major mission, Major Iqbal invites Hamza and seeks his help to get arms and ammunition from Balochistan and the “materials” are to be delivered at a Madrasa in Muridke, where young boys are doctrined on jihad.

Eventually, the ISI chief gets to know that Hamza is an Indian agent and Pakistan Police led by Omar arrests him. Hamza, now under the direct supervision of the General of ISI is beaten black and blue to expose himself.

Does he declare his intentions? Does he enumerate the last 15 years of his life as Hamza? Would the Indian Government rescue him or let him rot and die?
